Three-day civic festival on the third weekend of July — since 1973, every two years, with over 50,000 expected visitors and music ranging from brass bands to big bands and jazz
The Echterdinger Bürgerfest is one of the most traditional local festivals in the Stuttgart region. It has been organized by the Vereinsring Echterdingen e.V. since 1973 and takes place every two years — the 2026 edition runs from July 17 to 19 (third weekend of July). The organizer is the Vereinsring, which represents numerous Echterdingen clubs — music, sports, church, culture — as an umbrella organization. Free admission.
The festival takes place in the center of Echterdingen — around the town hall, bakehouse, Protestant church, and rectory. This compact arrangement of historic buildings provides a festival site that is not a meadow but a grown town core. Stages, stands, and rides are spread across several squares and alleys, creating a special festival atmosphere — you wander through the food stalls, hear different music from every corner, and stumble upon the next stage while strolling.
Music is a program highlight — and in a remarkable range: brass band as a traditional anchor, big band for swinging evening moods, jazz combos, local bands from the Stuttgart area, choirs, solo artists. Various stages run in parallel — those listening to brass music at Rathausplatz can experience jazz 50 meters away. A small funfair with rides and carousels complements the event — not on a grand scale, but family-friendly. Club stands offer Swabian specialties, Maultaschen, steaks, cakes, coffee, and drinks of all kinds.
A special feature: on Sunday, shops open from 1 p.m. — Sunday with shops open in Echterdingen's city center. This combines the civic festival and shopping, attracts additional visitors from the Stuttgart region, and gives Sunday its own dynamic. Families can stroll through the shops after lunch, then return to the festival grounds.
Echterdingen is a district of the twin town Leinfelden-Echterdingen in the Esslingen district, immediately south of Stuttgart. With around 41,000 inhabitants, the twin town is one of Stuttgart's largest suburbs and home to Stuttgart Airport and Messe Stuttgart. The historic town center of Echterdingen — with its town hall, bakehouse, and church — has been preserved despite its proximity to the airport and provides the backdrop for the Bürgerfest. Approximately 50,000 visitors over three days is a respectable number for a district with 22,000 inhabitants.
The 2026 edition follows the established rhythm: third weekend of July, three days of festivities, stages across the town center, catering by Echterdingen clubs. Sunday with shops open from 1 p.m. The Echterdingen club community has been organizing the festival for over 50 years — and makes it an event that attracts the entire twin town and surrounding region.
Detailed program will be published shortly before the date on vr-echterdingen.de.
