One-day Advent market on the Neuen Markt — arts and crafts, music, mulled wine
Unlike the large Stuttgart Christmas markets, the Leinfelder Sternstunden market is deliberately kept small: one Saturday, one square, selected stalls, regional players. The organizers are the Verbund Leinfelder Geschäfte (VLG) — the interest group of local retailers — in cooperation with the KREATIVallianz LE, an association of creative craftspeople and designers from Leinfelden-Echterdingen and the surrounding area.
The focus is on regional arts and crafts: ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, textiles, printmaking, paper art, Christmas decorations, and gift items — all from local producers. Unlike commercial large markets, the product range is curated and focused on unique character and regionality. There is also classic Advent market gastronomy: mulled wine, candied almonds, bratwurst, waffles, and children's punch.
Local music ensembles, choirs, and music school students provide a festive atmosphere. Additionally, the Stadtbücherei (city library) and the Volkshochschule (adult education center) open with extended hours — the library often with special Advent programs such as readings or picture book readings for children. This makes the Sternstunden a family Advent event that goes beyond the classic mulled wine market.
Until 2015, the traditional Engelesmarkt took place on the Neuen Markt — an Advent market with a long club history. In 2016, the VLG, together with the KREATIVallianz artists, took over the event and renamed it "Leinfelder Sternstunden", with a new concept and a stronger focus on arts and crafts and local retail. Since then, the market has become an integral part of the Advent calendar in the Fildern region.
Leinfelden-Echterdingen (Esslingen district, AGS 08116) is, with around 40,000 inhabitants, the neighboring city of Filderstadt on the Filder plateau south of Stuttgart. The city is primarily famous for Stuttgart Airport, which is located within its boundaries. The district of Leinfelden (around 14,000 inhabitants) has its own historic town center around the Neuen Markt and retains its small-town character despite its proximity to the big city — which the Advent market underscores with its quiet, regional atmosphere.
On Saturday, December 5, 2026, the Neuen Markt in the Filderstadt district of Leinfelden will once again transform into a small, curated Advent market. As every year on the Saturday before the 2nd Advent — in 2026, this falls on December 5th — the VLG (Verbund Leinfelder Geschäfte) and KREATIVallianz LE will jointly organize an Advent day with arts and crafts, music, and family activities.
The complete musical program and exhibitor list will be published in November 2026 on the city's website.
