Echterdinger Advent Tradition on Four Saturdays

The Echterdinger Adventszauber is a particularly charming Advent format: instead of a continuous Christmas market, the festival takes place only on the four Advent Saturdays. This focus on one day per Advent week creates a special sense of anticipation — each Advent Saturday becomes a small Echterdingen Christmas celebration. In 2026, the dates are: Saturday, November 28 (1st Advent), Saturday, December 5 (2nd Advent), Saturday, December 12 (3rd Advent), Saturday, December 19, 2026 (4th Advent).

Rathausplatz with Bakery and Church

The venue is the historic Rathausplatz Echterdingen with the distinctive Rathaus (town hall), the Backstube (a traditional bakery or local bakehouse), and the Echterdingen Stephanuskirche (St. Stephen's Church). These three buildings together form a special Advent backdrop — the bakery plays a central role, as traditional Christmas cookies are prepared and sold live here: Springerle, Plätzchen, Christstollen, Lebkuchen.

Christmas Music from Instrumentalists and Choirs

On each of the four Advent Saturdays, a different musical program provides the festive atmosphere: instrumentalists (brass players, string players, hurdy-gurdy), school choirs from Echterdingen schools, the church choir of Stephanuskirche, the brass band. The music programs usually take place in the late afternoon (from 4:00 PM), as dusk sets in and the illuminated Christmas market backdrop unfolds its full magic.

The culinary offerings focus on classic Advent specialties:

Echterdingen — District of Leinfelden-Echterdingen

Echterdingen is a district of the town of Leinfelden-Echterdingen (Esslingen district, approx. 39,000 inhabitants total). The town is located on the Fildern plateau south of Stuttgart and is home to, among others, Stuttgart Airport and the Stuttgart Trade Fair. Echterdingen itself has preserved its historic town center with the town hall, church, and bakehouse — the ideal setting for an authentic Advent market. Echterdingen is accessible from Stuttgart by S-Bahn lines S 2 / S 3 in about 25 minutes.
