The Largest Run in the Fichtelgebirge

The Fichtelgebirge Marathon is the largest running event in the Fichtelgebirge and a highlight in the running calendar of Upper Franconia. Start and finish are located at the Schlossterrassen in Bad Alexandersbad, Bavaria's smallest spa town in the district of Wunsiedel, state of Bavaria.

Three Distances for Every Performance Level

Three challenging distances are available: the Marathon over 42 km with 800 meters of elevation gain, the Half Marathon over 21 km with 400 meters of elevation gain, and a 10 km run with 225 meters of elevation gain. This makes the event suitable for both ambitious mountain runners and beginners.

Around the Kösseine Massif

The routes lead around the Kösseine Massif – with the Haberstein (848 m) as the highest point. The Marathon reaches Leupoldsdorf before returning to Bad Alexandersbad on the Half Marathon route. The majority of the route runs on forest and hiking trails with steep ascents and magnificent views.

Nature Experience in the Low Mountain Range

Unlike city marathons, the Fichtelgebirge Marathon impresses with its natural character. Runners traverse one of Bavaria's most attractive low mountain range landscapes and experience the Fichtelgebirge from its sporting side.

Bad Alexandersbad as Host

Bad Alexandersbad, as a spa town, specializes in recreation – an ideal setting for a running event with subsequent recovery. The Schlossterrassen provide an atmospheric backdrop for the start and finish.
