The 23rd edition of the Fichtelgebirge Marathon starts on July 4, 2026, at the Schlossterrassen in Bad Alexandersbad. Three distances are available: the Marathon over 42 km (800 meters of elevation gain), the Half Marathon over 21 km (400 meters of elevation gain), and a 10 km run (225 meters of elevation gain).
The routes circle the Kösseine Massif; the Marathon goes to Leupoldsdorf and returns to Bad Alexandersbad on the Half Marathon route. Online registration is possible until Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Getting There
Start and finish at the Schlossterrassen / in the Kurpark, 95680 Bad Alexandersbad (District of Wunsiedel). By car via the A93 (exit Marktredwitz-Nord).

The Largest Run in the Fichtelgebirge
The Fichtelgebirge Marathon is the largest running event in the Fichtelgebirge and a highlight in the running calendar of Upper Franconia. Start and finish are located at the Schlossterrassen in Bad Alexandersbad, Bavaria's smallest spa town in the district of Wunsiedel, state of Bavaria.
Three Distances for Every Performance Level
Three challenging distances are available: the Marathon over 42 km with 800 meters of elevation gain, the Half Marathon over 21 km with 400 meters of elevation gain, and a 10 km run with 225 meters of elevation gain. This makes the event suitable for both ambitious mountain runners and beginners.
Around the Kösseine Massif
The routes lead around the Kösseine Massif – with the Haberstein (848 m) as the highest point. The Marathon reaches Leupoldsdorf before returning to Bad Alexandersbad on the Half Marathon route. The majority of the route runs on forest and hiking trails with steep ascents and magnificent views.
