Echtz — a district with an active club life

Echtz is one of over twenty districts of the district town of Düren, located in the western part of the city between Düren-Mitte and the Rur river lowlands. With around 1,500 inhabitants, Echtz is manageable but known for its active village community: around 60 clubs are active here and work together in the Interessengemeinschaft Echtzer Ortsvereine (IG Echtz). The Wiesenfest of SV Sportfreunde Echtz is one of the largest joint summer projects of this local cultural scene.

Sportfreunde Echtz — Club with eight departments

Sportfreunde Echtz e.V. is the largest sports club in the district with eight departments: Football, Gymnastics, Tennis, Table Tennis, Fitness Gymnastics, Boules, Spinal Gymnastics, and Mountain Biking. The club life is broadly based, from youth work to senior sports — and the Wiesenfest is the highlight of the club calendar, where all departments jointly promote their sports field and their community.

2026 Program — Penalty Shootout and Sponsor Run

The 2026 edition is announced with two main attractions: a penalty shootout as a sporting competition for club members and guests — a popular shooting bet where anyone can participate — and a sponsor run, where participants run laps on the sports field for charitable club purposes and are supported by sponsors per lap. In addition, the classic Wiesenfest program: beer tent, club catering, tombola, children's program, and live music performances in the evening.

Beer Tent, Bratwurst, Stage

Over two days, a beer tent with tables and a bar will be open, the club catering serves bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, coffee, and cake — all prepared by club members. On Saturday evening, there is a stage with live music; Sunday is usually more family-friendly during the day with a children's program and sports games. Admission is free, food and drinks are at club prices.

Club Festival in a Rhenish Tradition

Wiesenfest celebrations are deeply rooted in the Rhineland — almost every village and sports club has its own summer festival on the sports field, where the village community meets annually. Unlike the large city festivals or Kirmes (funfairs), these festivals are small, personal, and club-oriented. Anyone visiting the Wiesenfest in Düren-Echtz gets to know the Rhineland in its most intimate form.

Düren and the Düren District

Düren, with around 95,000 inhabitants, is the district town of the Düren district, located between Cologne (40 km) and Aachen (35 km) on the edge of the Lower Rhine lowlands. Visitors to the Wiesenfest can extend their trip with a visit to Burgau (castle with restaurant), the Brückenkopf-Park Jülich (15 km northeast), or a cycling trip along the Rur river.
