Treptow-Köpenick Neighbourhood Festival in the High-Rise Estate

The Allende quarter in the Johannisthal district (Treptow-Köpenick borough) is one of Berlin's largest prefabricated housing estates in the southeast: built between 1971 and 1981, named after Chilean President Salvador Allende, it is now home to around 17,000 people. The KIEZKLUB Allende at Salvador-Allende-Straße 89 is a central social institution here – a municipal community centre run by the district office, offering sports, music, dance, language courses, yoga, and creative workshops.

One of Eleven KIEZKLUB Summer Festivals in the Borough

Treptow-Köpenick has a total of eleven municipal KIEZKLUBs. Each of them celebrates its own summer festival between June and September, staggered throughout the summer so that neighbours can also visit other KIEZKLUBs. The summer festival in the Allende quarter is the event organised by the club at Salvador-Allende-Straße – with a stage programme featuring its own club activities (dance groups, choirs), live music, children's theatre, and refreshments from coffee to bratwurst.

Programme Evolving Over the Years

The programme is primarily drawn from the club's own courses and the Berlin music scene: regularly featuring Berlin singer-songwriters like Leona Heine, local music groups like Mix 21, as well as the KIEZKLUB's own dance formations and the children's theatre „Woffelpantoffel“. Around this, there are creative and handicraft workshops for children, games, and entertainment for all age groups.

Free Admission, Focus on Community

The summer festival is free to attend and is primarily aimed at residents of the Allende quarter and the surrounding residential areas in Johannisthal. Those who attended the first summer festival in 2022, when the club newly opened, helped to set up the event – since then, it has become an established annual fixture in the neighbourhood calendar.
