European musical diversity on June 21st in the MEK garden in Berlin-Dahlem
The Fête de la Musique has been a French export hit since 1982: on the longest day of the year, musicians perform all over Europe, and admission is free. In Berlin, around 100 locations participate – one of the most beautiful is the garden of the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) in Dahlem (Steglitz-Zehlendorf district).
For the 2026 edition, the MEK has invited the Tajna Veza Collective, led by Berlin-based singer Vernesa Berbo. The program features a journey through Southeast European and Mediterranean musical styles: Sevdah songs from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sephardic music, Roma sounds, classical Balkan songs, and improvised bridges to the contemporary Berlin scene.
The concert is part of an all-day event at the MEK, which simultaneously makes the current special exhibition and the permanent collection accessible free of charge. You can switch between pattern painting workshops, hands-on activities, short guided tours, and the concert – the entire museum grounds open up to an audience of all generations on this day.
The MEK at Arnimallee 25 is Germany's only museum dedicated to the cultural diversity of everyday European cultures. With the event day and the Fête de la Musique, the institution makes this idea tangible every year – not in display cases, but outdoors and in direct exchange with the audience.
The Fête de la Musique 2026 at the Museum of European Cultures in Berlin-Dahlem (Steglitz-Zehlendorf) takes place on Sunday, June 21st. From 5 PM, the Tajna Veza Collective, featuring Berlin-based singer Vernesa Berbo, will perform in the museum garden at Arnimallee 25.
The program includes songs from Bosnia-Herzegovina (Sevdah), from the Jewish Sephardic tradition, from the Roma repertoire, as well as Balkan classics and arrangements bridging folk and jazz. The concert is integrated into the all-day event "Muster. Musik. Miteinander." (Patterns. Music. Together.), which runs from 2 PM to 10 PM and offers free access to the MEK's special exhibition and permanent collection.
Admission to the entire event day, including the concert, is free. In case of rain, the concert will be moved indoors.
Additional workshops and hands-on activities focusing on patterns and music will accompany the day. The full program will be published by the MEK on smb.museum.
Free admission – The concert, event day, collection, and special exhibitions at the MEK are accessible free of charge on June 21, 2026.
