Running in the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town
The Old Town of Goslar, with its approximately 1,800 well-preserved half-timbered houses, the Imperial Palace, the Market Church, and its characteristic alleys, is among the most beautiful preserved old towns in Germany and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The Goslar Old Town Run uses this extraordinary setting as its course, offering a running experience that is rare in this form. The historic alleys, cobblestone streets, and medieval atmosphere give the run a distinctive character.
37th Edition and Over 2,300 Participants
With its 37th edition in 2026, the Old Town Run boasts an exceptionally long tradition. From a local city run, it has developed over almost four decades into an established major event that attracts thousands of runners annually. For 2026, over 2,300 participants are registered — an impressive number that underscores the run's significance. The organizer, MTV Goslar e.V., manages the event with high professionalism.
Saturday Evening Relay Warm-up
The program begins on Saturday evening, May 2nd, with the relay warm-up on the Market Square starting at 7 PM. Relay teams from clubs, companies, and groups of friends compete against each other, creating the right atmosphere for the main race day on Sunday. The atmosphere on the Market Square, with its medieval backdrop, is particularly impressive.
Sunday Morning 9.6 km Main Run
On Sunday, May 3rd, the 9.6-kilometer main run starts at 9 AM. The course leads through the historic alleys of the Old Town — a running experience that combines sporting ambition with cultural enjoyment. The route includes sections over the cobblestone streets of the city center, past historical buildings, and through narrow medieval alleys.
Nordic Walking and Children's Races
At 10 AM, the 4.8-kilometer Nordic Walking competition starts — a format that invites non-runners to participate. Afterwards, the focus shifts to the children: Bambini and junior runs from 11:10 AM to 12:25 PM in various age categories allow young runners to enter competitive sports.
MTV Goslar as Organizer
Behind the Old Town Run is MTV Goslar e.V. — one of the largest and most traditional sports clubs in Goslar. The professional organization, many years of experience, and the dedicated team of volunteers from MTV are the foundation for the event's annual success.
