Three-day city anniversary with a grand historical parade
Pasewalk, the district town in Vorpommern-Greifswald, was first mentioned in a document in 1251. In 2026, the town will celebrate its 775th anniversary. The entire calendar year is marked by special events β from the New Year's reception and the Cuirassier Ball to the Stadtringfest. The grand festival weekend from September 4th to 6th, 2026, will be the crowning finale and highlight of the anniversary year.
The centerpiece of the festival weekend is the grand parade on Saturday, September 5th. It will wind its way through the city center over a route of approximately four kilometers. The parade is divided into ten sections, each representing an epoch of the city's history β from the Middle Ages and the Hanseatic period to the cuirassier garrison and the present day. Companies, clubs, associations, and institutions will participate with lovingly designed floats, walking groups, and historical reenactments. The parade planning is led by museum director Maria Mischke.
Numerous external groups have confirmed their participation in the parade, including the Greifenschlag cultural association from Greifswald, the Burgverein Burg Stargard, the Ukranenland Torgelow, Schloss Penkun, and a historical uniform society from Thuringia. Thus, the Pasewalk festival weekend becomes a meeting point for the historical association scene in Pomerania and beyond.
The patronage of the anniversary festival has been taken over by Bettina Martin, Science Minister of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern β an acknowledgment of the town's civic engagement. The state of MV is supporting the festival weekend with β¬15,000 in funding. The city administration is coordinating the preparations through five working groups.
The three-day festival weekend from September 4th to 6th, 2026, marks the conclusion and highlight of the "775 Years Pasewalk" anniversary year. The entire city center will become a festival stage: themed markets, cultural performances, and surprises will accompany visitors throughout all three days.
