Run Where Planes Once Took Off
Few places in Berlin are more atmospheric than the evening stillness of Tempelhof Field — and hardly any running event utilizes this backdrop as consistently as the SportScheck RUN. While other city runs have to contend with traffic and noise, here you run on the historic runway of the former Tempelhof Airport — completely car-free, framed by the monumental hangar building and illuminated by special light installations.
Five Distances for All Age Groups
The program begins in the late afternoon with the Bambini RUN (0.4 km, children 0–7 years) at 5 PM, the Kids RUN (1.5 km, 7–12 years) at 5:30 PM, and unfolds into the night: 5 km from 6:00 PM, 10 km from 7:00 PM, and Half Marathon (21.1 km) from 7:05 PM for runners aged 16 and over. Every participant receives a functional running shirt and a transponder chip for electronic timing.
Tempelhof Airport — From Airlift Monument to Running Temple
Tempelhof Airport, closed in 2008, in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district, is now one of Berlin's most remarkable landmarks: 386 hectares of airport grounds, plus the former main building — one of the largest buildings in Europe — and the open Tempelhof Field as a park. Berlin's "Rosinenbomber" (Douglas C-54 Skymaster, symbol of the 1948/49 airlift) stands as a monument on the field and is part of the course scenery. The event is organized by SportScheck, the sports equipment retail chain belonging to the Otto Group.
