What it's about

With around 190 concerts at 80 venues between mid-June and mid-September, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are among the largest classical music festivals in Europe. They take place in manor houses, barns, factories, castles, churches, and open-air stages throughout the state.

Fürstenhagen as a Venue

In the southwesternmost corner of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in Fürstenhagen near the Feldberg Lake District, the Festspiele operate two special venues:

• Fürstenhagen Church — an idyllic village church, acoustically ideal for chamber music
• Restaurant »Alte Schule« — gourmet restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Schmidthaler, Zur Alten Schule 5, 17258 Fürstenhagen, featuring its own concert format »Music Goes Through the Stomach«

Anniversary Season 2026

In 2026, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern will celebrate their 35th anniversary. The programme has been expanded with numerous special concerts and series throughout the state. In Fürstenhagen, a concert with two Vienna Philharmonic musicians at the Alte Schule on August 27, 2026, at 5:30 PM is confirmed – followed by a three-course menu by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Schmidthaler.

Regional Context

Fürstenhagen is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District, on the border with Brandenburg, in close proximity to the Feldberg Lake District and the Hans Fallada Museum in Carwitz. The venue thus offers a unique combination of nature, literature, and classical music for the region.
