Lichtenberg's opening event for the cultural summer on the occasion of Fête de la Musique – Fennpfuhlpark, June 2026 (Date to be confirmed)
Fennpfuhl is a Berlin district in the Lichtenberg borough, completely re-planned in the 1970s – prefabricated buildings around the artificially created Fennpfuhl lake, with a central park and lake terraces. Today, a socially mixed population lives here, with a high proportion of families and older people. It is precisely here that the BENN Fennpfuhl neighbourhood management, together with the Lichtenberg District Office, has been organising FENN DE LA MUSIQUE for several years – a music festival in the park that marks the German and Berlin start of Lichtenberg's cultural summer.
The Lichtenberg Cultural Summer has been running annually since 2024 from June 21st (Fête de la Musique day) until the end of September. It bundles events from the district's cultural institutions – including the Haubrok Foundation, the Dark Matter light art museum, the Democracy Campus at the Stasi headquarters, the Hohenschönhausen-Lichtenberg Memorial, and the Berlin Zoo – into a joint programme. District Mayor Martin Schaefer describes the initiative as proof that "Lichtenberg has developed into a vibrant cultural and creative centre in Berlin".
FENN DE LA MUSIQUE in Fennpfuhlpark provides the official start. The lake terraces by the water offer a natural stage area; its direct location among the high-rise residential buildings makes the event a dedicated neighbourhood festival. Programme: local bands and solo artists from the district and the borough, plus small participatory activities, a drinks and snacks stand, free admission for everyone.
BENN stands for "Berlin Develops New Neighbourhoods" – a Senate programme that has established active neighbourhood management structures in several Berlin districts. BENN Fennpfuhl has been on site since 2018 and is responsible for numerous district formats, from neighbourhood lounges to summer festivals. FENN DE LA MUSIQUE is one of the largest and most visible formats.
The 2026 edition follows the established format: opening event of Lichtenberg's cultural summer for the international Fête de la Musique, with a local band programme in Fennpfuhlpark. The exact date (usually June 21st) and the acts will be announced by the Lichtenberg District Office in cooperation with BENN Fennpfuhl in early summer 2026. The event serves as a bridge between the international Fête date and the district-specific cultural summer.
The 2026 programme will be published in the weeks before the event on the district's channels. Based on experience, the format follows this structure:
Free admission. Food and drinks at the stand at cost price or by donation. Proceeds go to BENN Fennpfuhl's district work.
