Summer festival with live music at VolmeFreizeitPark in the Sauerland
The Volme — the river to which the Upper Bergisches-Sauerland town of Kierspe owes its character — becomes the stage for one of the most popular town festivals in summer: "Feiern an der Volme". Directly at the VolmeFreizeitPark, the green recreational area on the riverbank, the organizers set up a stage, provide beer garden tables and standing tables, and the Volmetal town celebrates itself — for six hours, from 6 PM to midnight.
The concept is down-to-earth and has grown organically: Food from regional snack stands and food trucks (sausages, fries, crêpes, burgers), drinks from Pilsner to Aperol Spritz, and live music on stage. The bands change every year — usually regional cover bands or those active throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, playing everything that gets you dancing: pop classics, German Schlager, rock hits, 80s megamixes.
What distinguishes "Feiern an der Volme" is the mix of generations: Young Kierspe residents come with friends, families with children, parents, grandparents — everyone meets on the riverbank. The VolmeFreizeitPark with its meadows, paths, and playground offers space for relaxed get-togethers next to the dance floor in front of the stage.
The festival is supported by the City of Kierspe together with the Stadtwerke Kierspe (municipal utility company) and the Sparkasse (savings bank). This cooperation between administration, municipal utility, and bank underpins the festival — financially, organizationally, and symbolically. It is an expression of the small-town cohesion that is typical of this region.
Kierspe is located in the Märkischer Kreis district in North Rhine-Westphalia, at the transition from the southern Sauerland to the Bergisches Land. With around 16,000 inhabitants, the town is manageable; the Volmetal valley with its meadows, forests, and hiking trails shapes the landscape. Kierspe is one of the region's traditional industrial locations (wire industry), but at the same time cultivates a strong club scene and community festivals.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: stage on the riverbank, beer garden atmosphere, food truck stands, and a cover band program. The exact band lineup will be communicated by the City of Kierspe and local media (mein-kierspe.de, City Administration) before the event.
Note: The final band lineup for 2026 will be published by the City of Kierspe before June 13th.
