Kierspe — A Town in the Volmetal

Kierspe is a town in the southern Märkischer Kreis district with approximately 16,000 inhabitants, situated in the Volmetal valley between Lüdenscheid and Halver. The region is characterized by small and medium-sized industrial companies (metal processing, mechanical engineering), wooded hills, and a vibrant club scene — from shooting clubs and sports clubs to choirs and music groups. The annual Kiersper Stadtfest is the central social gathering point of the town, regularly attracting several thousand visitors from Kierspe and surrounding communities.

Gesamtschule-Forum as the Central Stage

The festival takes place at the Gesamtschule-Forum at Otto-Ruhe-Straße 2–4 — a covered plaza in front of the municipal comprehensive school, offering ample space for a stage, stalls, seating areas, and play zones. In case of rain, the program will move into the adjacent buildings.

Saturday, September 12th — The Festival Day

The main festival day starts on Saturday at 2:00 PM and runs continuously until 11:45 PM:

• Dance groups from local clubs open the stage program — folk dance, show dance, ballroom dance
• Live music with local bands and solo artists — from Schlager to Pop and Rock
• Culinary delights: sausage grill, potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), cake buffet from church communities, beer and wine stands
• Late evening: Dance night with a DJ or dance band until late into the night

Sunday, September 13th — Family Day

Sunday traditionally begins with the ecumenical service at 11:00 AM, jointly led by representatives of the Protestant and Catholic church communities. Afterwards, the family program runs until 6:00 PM:

• Bouncy castle and play bus for the little ones
• Face painting by professional artists
• Flea market focusing on children's items — parents and clubs offer toys, children's clothing, and books
• Hands-on activity stations by local clubs — sports, music, crafts
• Stage program featuring children's choirs, school groups, and music associations
• Coffee and cake in the foyer

Town of Kierspe and Clubs — Organized Together

The event is organized by the Stadtfest-Komitee (Festival Committee), a loose association of representatives from the Town of Kierspe, local clubs, and church communities. Funding comes from stall fees paid by clubs, municipal subsidies, and private sponsors. Admission is free for visitors.

Getting There and Practical Information

Kierspe is located on the B 54 federal road between Lüdenscheid and Halver. By car: Take the A 45 motorway, exit at Lüdenscheid-Süd, then follow the B 54 towards Halver/Kierspe. Public transport: Kierspe train station (RB 25 Volmetalbahn line), bus routes connect the town center and the comprehensive school. Parking is available around the school.
