While the island of Sylt is overrun by day-trippers in the summer, late autumn belongs to the connoisseurs. The Island Food Festival uses this quiet time to establish itself as Northern Germany's culinary heavyweight — a five-day festival week where the island's leading restaurants collaborate, offering a joint program of dinner evenings, workshops, and excursions.

The Six Host Restaurants

• Söl'ring Hof in Rantum — 2-star restaurant with a long tradition, led by Johannes King and Jan-Philipp Berner
• Samoa Seepferdchen in Wenningstedt — Beach restaurant with a modern concept
• Severin*s Resort & Spa in Keitum — Five-star resort with a restaurant and star cuisine
• Dorfkrug Bar & Grill in Westerland — Upscale grill restaurant in a central location
• Hotel Restaurant Jörg Müller in Westerland — Classic star sanctuary with a long history
• Landhaus Stricker in Tinnum — Home of festival initiator Holger Bodendorf, also a star restaurant

Program Format

The events are spread across the entire island and the five festival days. There are clearly defined formats that recur every year:

• 6-Hands Dinner — three star chefs cook together in one kitchen, each dish is coordinated by six hands
• Champagne Evenings with partner brands like Perrier-Jouët
• Culinary Excursions — trips to oyster farms, smokehouses, farm bakeries
• International Guest Chefs — star chefs from Germany and abroad who perform as guests
• Themed Dinners — e.g., Greek cuisine, Austrian cuisine, regional focuses
• Final Kitchen Party — joint closing event for all festival participants on the last evening

Price Level and Target Audience

The festival consciously positions itself in the premium segment. Prices range from around €89 (e.g., oyster excursion) to €1,600 (e.g., Bordeaux vintage dinner with historical vintages). The target audience is clear: connoisseurs who are willing to pay for a unique experience — many guests travel from Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, and Southern Germany, some from Switzerland and Austria.
