International Wingfoil Competition and Open German Wave Championship on the Westerland Promenade
In wingfoiling, athletes combine a surf/foil board with a handheld inflatable "wing" (a type of sail without a mast). The wind propels them forward, and the foil under the board lifts them out of the water, making them appear to glide above it. The discipline only emerged around 2019 and has since become the fastest-growing watersport — Sylt, with its consistent winds and surf conditions, is one of the best spots in Europe.
Parallel to the international competition, the Open German Wave Championship will be held — the national championship title in Wave Wingfoiling. German wingfoilers will face international competition on the same spot, making the contest particularly prestigious.
In addition to the competition, there will be a vibrant supporting program on the beach:
Sylt, in the North Frisia district, is the largest German North Sea island and, with its over 40 km of sandy beach, the beach structures at Brandenburger Strand, and consistent westerly winds, is one of Germany's most famous watersports spots. Westerland — the largest of Sylt's municipalities — forms the center of the island and also hosts the promenade where the Wingfoil Masters are held. In summer, the island is a major tourist destination — the Wingfoil Masters seamlessly fit into a long tradition of watersports events (Surf Cup, Kite Cup, Windsurf World Cup).
In 2026, the 2nd edition of the Wingfoil Masters will be held on Sylt — the premiere in 2025 attracted an international field of participants and established itself as a fixture on the wingfoil World Cup calendar.
The competition sequence typically follows the international wingfoil tour format: Opening registration and skipper briefing on the first day, competition rounds distributed over the following days depending on wind and wave conditions, concluding with final rounds and the award ceremony on Sunday.
