About Fehmarn Marathon
Fehmarn Marathon — edition 2026
The 2026 edition is confirmed on the official organiser's website. The course layout remains classic: circuits over roads, dykes, and country paths through the eastern part of Fehmarn, with a central meeting point at the Inselschule sports field (Gahlendorfer Weg 25, Burg auf Fehmarn).
As every year, the date falls on the first weekend of September — a time when the island typically offers mild, running-friendly weather between the summer and autumn seasons.

Running with Sea Views
The Fehmarn Marathon takes place every year in early September on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn, in the Ostholstein district of Schleswig-Holstein. The island — connected to the mainland via the Fehmarnsund Bridge — offers an ideal profile for marathon runners: largely flat, with a constant alternation between coastal scenery, fields, and dyke sections. In clear weather, the view extends far across the Baltic Sea, the Wagrien peninsula, and, in good visibility, even to Denmark.
Five Distances for All Levels
The event caters to the entire spectrum of ambitious and casual runners:
- Marathon — 42.2 km circuit
- Half Marathon — 21.1 km
- Around Burgtiefe — 12 km island course
- 5 km Run — short race
- Mini Run — 1.4 km for children and families
Course and Surface
About 70% of the main distances are run on asphalt, with the remainder on dykes and unpaved country paths through the eastern part of the island. The courses are designed as circuits — the marathon variant circles a large part of the island. Timing is done via foot chip at no extra charge.
Start and Finish: the Inselschule
The sports field and school buildings of the Inselschule in Burg serve as the central event area: registration, changing rooms, showers, baggage storage with race numbers, and the award ceremony are all located there. For the marathon winners, there are prize monies of €200 (1st), €150 (2nd), and €100 (3rd), for both men and women.
Tourism and Registration
Online registration closes on September 2, 2026 — late entries are possible up to 30 minutes before each start at the sports field. The organiser is SV Fehmarn von 1879 e.V., one of Ostholstein's most traditional sports clubs.
