Germany's largest Bulli festival right by the sea
In just a few years, the Midsummer Bulli Festival has established itself as the most important meeting point for the German Bulli and Vanlife scene — the Fehmarn Tourism Centre itself calls it "the Woodstock for Bulli drivers" in the summer of 2026. The venue is the Südstrand (south beach) of Fehmarn island in the Ostholstein district, Schleswig-Holstein state — the southernmost point of the island with a wide sandy beach, low dunes, and a direct view of the Baltic Sea.
The heart of the festival is the Show & Shine competition, where Bullis of all generations from the T1 (built 1950–1967) to the current T6 are awarded prizes in numerous categories:
Winners of the T1 category will receive a special artwork by pop artist Tanja Kiesewalter in the Midsummer Bulli Festival design — with a four-figure collector's value.
The highlight on Saturday morning is the convoy drive around the island of Fehmarn — a 60 km long Bulli caravan, secured by escorts front and rear. Spectators line the route, photographing the colorful vehicles and waving — a unique spectacle that officially ushers in summer on the island.
The festival is deliberately timed around the Midsummer solstice in mid-June and incorporates Swedish Midsommar customs: raising a decorated maypole (Midsommarstång), round dances, and flower crowns. This Scandinavian touch makes the festival unique in the German festival landscape.
In addition to the vehicle show, there is an extensive lecture program on topics such as Vanlife, camper conversions, solar technology, digital nomadism, and overland travel — a mix of practical workshops and travelogues. Live music on the Midsummer Stage with acts like Bobby Alu, Baltic Beats, Hitfluencer, and the Polo Lounge. Every day at 6 PM, the Kids Bulli Disco takes place in front of the legendary T1 disco bus with a light show and soap bubbles.
The 2026 edition extends the festival to four days, continuing the growth of recent years. Highlights: Show & Shine with more than ten categories, the convoy drive on Saturday morning (60 km around the island), Swedish Midsommar customs (pole raising and round dances on Saturday afternoon), live music daily on the Midsummer Stage, and the Kids Bulli Disco in front of the T1 disco bus.
