The next edition in 2026 will take place on Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, throughout the Freiburg city centre. Two days during which the shops and squares of the old town become a stage for fashion shows, creative pop-up events, culinary highlights, and a diverse live program.

Pre-Opening on the Schlossberg Steps

One of the festival's trademarks is the staging of the city itself. On Friday, September 25, 2026, the festival will kick off with a pre-opening on the Schlossberg steps — the monumental staircase leading from the Schwabentor up to the Schlossberg will be transformed into an extraordinary catwalk. The idea of using urban architecture as a fashion podium clearly sets the Fashion & Food Festival apart from the usual city festival repertoire.

Fashion Shows in the Old Town

On Saturday, September 26, the program will extend throughout the city centre. Spectacular fashion shows will take place at prominent locations — in squares, in front of historic facades, in the alleys of the old town. Fashion designers from Freiburg, the Breisgau region, and beyond will present their collections, and local boutiques and brands will showcase their activities — a vibrant showcase of Freiburg's fashion and lifestyle scene.

Culinary Street Food Festival

Parallel to the fashion, the gastronomic offerings will unfold. Street food stalls and pop-up eateries from the region will be spread throughout the city centre — from international cuisine to regional Baden classics, from craft burgers to vegan bowls. The concept focuses not on a central food area, but on a widespread presence throughout the city centre, making strolling between fashion and food part of the experience.

Creative Actions by Local Retailers

A special feature of the festival is the involvement of local retailers. Boutiques, lifestyle shops, manufactories, and designer studios in the city centre will open their doors for creative events — from workshops and pop-up shows to special collections exclusively for the festival weekend. The city initiative Gemeinsam Freiburg e.V., as the organizer, coordinates this participation of the shops and ensures a high level of retailer involvement.

Freiburg im Breisgau, with its approximately 235,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the Breisgau, a university city, and one of Germany's most attractive city centres. The Minster, Bächle (small water channels), Augustinerplatz, Schwabentor, and Martinstor form an exceptionally well-preserved historic old town, whose architectural quality provides a special setting for the festival.
