Traditional Volks- and Schützenfest in Bremen North
When the Farger Schützengesellschaft von 1895 invites you to its Volks- und Schützenfest, a piece of North German tradition comes alive in the north of Bremen. On the club's own shooting range at Betonstraße in the Farge district, the festival combines the solemn seriousness of the shooting fraternity with the exuberant atmosphere of a Volksfest over several days. The program is characterized by the King's Shoot, proclamation of the new King and Queen, a festive parade through the district, and marquee events with music.
The Farger Schützengesellschaft was founded in 1895 and sees itself as a place of tradition and cultural openness at the same time. Over 130 editions of the Volks- und Schützenfest have firmly anchored the club in the life of the district. The royal court, with the Schützenkönig (King) and Königin (Queen) and their retinue, represents the festival throughout the year and is the focus of the celebrations. In addition to the Schützenfest, the club's activities also include a family Easter bonfire and the traditional 'Kohlfahrt' (cabbage tour).
The festival is explicitly a Volksfest for everyone: Admission is free, and in addition to the shooting sports part, the marquee, music, and catering provide the convivial atmosphere that connects generations in Bremen North. The Hanseatic city of Bremen, with districts like Farge, extends far along the Unterweser river — and it is precisely here that the village-like shooting tradition has remained particularly vibrant.
In 2026, the Farger Schützengesellschaft von 1895 will continue the over 130-year tradition of its Volks- und Schützenfest. The 131st edition is planned for the second weekend of July 2026 (likely Friday, July 10th to Monday, July 13th, following the long-standing Friday-to-Monday festival tradition) on the club's own shooting range at Betonstraße in Bremen-Farge. Following the established pattern, the weekend will include the opening and shooting program, Sunday morning will feature a wake-up call by the corps, church service, and a festive parade through Farge, along with marquee events with music and dancing. Monday evening traditionally concludes with the grand King's Shoot (via video transmission to the shooting range) and the subsequent King's Ball with the proclamation of the new King and Queen. The detailed daily schedule and the band program in the marquee will be published by the Farger Schützengesellschaft in spring/May 2026 via their website and social media channels. Free admission.
Program structure based on the established 130 predecessor editions; the specific dates, band acts in the marquee, and detailed times for 2026 will be announced by the Farger Schützengesellschaft in spring/May 2026 on farger-schuetzengesellschaft.de and their social media channels.
The shooting range is located at Betonstraße 49 in the Bremen district of Farge, part of the Blumenthal borough. Accessible via the Regio-S-Bahn (Bremen-Farge station) and bus lines in Bremen North.
Admission to the Volks- und Schützenfest is free.
The Farger Schützengesellschaft announces the exact dates and detailed program for each edition via its website and social media channels. The festival traditionally takes place in July.
