Fairtrade neighborhood market in Kaskelkiez
The Fairer Markt Lichtenberg is a relatively young Berlin event that has established itself as a fixture in Kaskelkiez within a few years. On Tuchollaplatz – a charming small neighborhood square in the Rummelsburg district – the Lichtenberg district office combines everything that belongs to a sustainable weekend on one day a year: sales stands, information offerings, stage program, and street food.
Stands with fair-trade products from all over the world as well as regional offerings from Brandenburg and Berlin line the square. The assortment ranges from fashion, jewelry, and handicrafts to toys and books, as well as food, coffee, tea, and chocolate from certified fair production.
The market is part of the nationwide Faire Woche (Fair Week), which takes place every year in September and bundles activities around fair trade under a changing motto. In the Lichtenberg district, the Fairer Markt is the most visible program item of these action weeks and is traditionally opened by the district mayor.
Tuchollaplatz is located in the middle of the historic Kaskelkiez, a residential quarter characterized by Wilhelminian-era architecture between Frankfurter Allee and Rummelsburger Bucht. Its location makes the market a neighborhood festival that simultaneously attracts visitors from all over Berlin and Brandenburg – Lichtenberg has been positioning itself as a fair and committed federal state quarter for years.
Admission is free. Anyone looking for fair fashion, unusual gifts, or simply good street food breaks will find it here. Families will find a child-friendly program, and engaged individuals can exchange ideas at information stands with actors from Berlin and Lichtenberg.
The Berlin district of Lichtenberg will continue the Fairer Markt in 2026 as an annual neighborhood festival. As in previous years, a one-day event is planned for Tuchollaplatz in Kaskelkiez, integrated into the nationwide Faire Woche, which traditionally takes place in the second half of September.
In 2026, stands with fair-trade and regional products will again be the focus: fashion, textiles, handicrafts, food, coffee, tea, and chocolate. In addition, there will be street food, a stage program with music, and hands-on activities for children. The exact date, official motto, and program details will be published by the district office in a timely manner on berlin.de/ba-lichtenberg.
As in previous years, an official opening by the district mayor is expected. The market is aimed at residents, families, and all Berliners who want to shop fairly and sustainably.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the Lichtenberg District Office during the summer months. Based on previous years, the following components are confirmed:
