Two Anniversaries, One Festival Weekend

The Schützenverein „Wiesengrund" Hamberg was founded in 1951 and has since been one of the most active clubs in the JURA Schützengau, the traditional association of marksmen in the former Parsberg district. In 2026, the club celebrates its 75th anniversary — and coincidentally in the same year it is also hosting the 65th Gauschießen of the JURA Gau. The two occasions have been combined into a joint festival weekend.

Hamberg — District of Breitenbrunn (Lkr Neumarkt)

Hamberg is a district of the market town Breitenbrunn (postal code 92363) in the Neumarkt district of the Oberpfalz, Bavaria. The village is home to the marksmen's club, whose clubhouse is located at Hauptstraße 29. During the festival weekend, a large festival tent will be set up on a central festival grounds in the village.

What is a Gauschießen?

A Gauschießen is the largest competition event of a Bavarian Schützengau. Over several weeks, marksmen from all clubs in the Gau — for Gau JURA, these are the clubs in the Parsberg, Velburg, Hohenfels, Breitenbrunn, and Berching areas — compete against each other in various disciplines (air rifle, air pistol, small-caliber rifle). The 65th Gauschießen 2026 already started on March 1st, 2026, with the first competition days; the festival weekend from May 8th to 10th marks the festive climax with the proclamation of the new district kings and district king chains, as well as the traditional parade.

Tradition, Traditional Costume, and Brass Music

The marksmen's tradition is deeply rooted in Bavaria, especially in the Oberpfalz. During the festival weekend, marksmen's clubs will appear in traditional costume, and traditional marksmen's chains and king's medals will be awarded. A parade featuring marksmen's clubs, traditional costume groups, brass bands, and partner clubs from the region will march through Hamberg — usually accompanied by open-air concerts, beer service, and a festive evening in the beer tent.

A Festival for the Entire Region

Invited are not only the marksmen from the JURA Gau but also partner clubs, neighboring clubs like SV Anger, representatives from politics and the church, and all guests from Hamberg and the surrounding area. SV Wiesengrund Hamberg is leading the organization of the festival weekend with an organizing committee, a festival program booklet, and its own parade plan.

65th Gauschießen Hamberg — edition 2026

The festival weekend from May 8th to 10th, 2026, marks the festive culmination of the 75th anniversary of SV Wiesengrund Hamberg and the 65th Gauschießen of the JURA Schützengau. Featuring the proclamation of the district king on Saturday evening, a joint parade on Sunday afternoon, and a festive evening in the beer tent. The actual shooting competitions have been running since early March in Hamberg.

The grand festival weekend is the crowning event of a two-month competition program: Since March 1st, 2026, marksmen from the JURA Gau have been competing in Hamberg in the air rifle, air pistol, and sport rifle disciplines. The festival weekend will see the final decisions, the proclamation of the new district kings, and the dignified celebration of the host club's 75th anniversary.

Hamberg transforms for three days into the center of Upper Palatinate marksmanship. A festival tent, open-air concerts, catering by the club, and a parade with traditional costume groups, brass bands, and partner clubs provide the fitting supporting program.
