Overview
Premiere at Tuchollaplatz
The Fairer Markt Lichtenberg 2025 took place for the first time not in the Stadtpark, but at Tuchollaplatz in Kaskelkiez. The centrally located neighborhood square in the Rummelsburg district offered significantly more visibility – right in the middle of a well-established residential area between Frankfurter Allee and Rummelsburger Bucht.
Embedded in the Faire Woche
The market day was part of the nationwide Faire Woche 2025 (September 12–26), themed "Fair handeln – Vielfalt erleben!" (Act Fairly – Experience Diversity!). Thus, the Berlin district of Lichtenberg joined a nationwide program that annually gathers thousands of activities related to fair trade and sustainable consumption.
Program and Stands
On the stands distributed around the square, the event offered fair-trade fashion and upcycling, handicrafts, jewelry, decorations, and toys. Culinary highlights included street food, fair-trade chocolate, coffee, and tea. The stage provided music and performances related to fair-trade producer regions, while hands-on activities, face painting for children, and information stands from Lichtenberg initiatives rounded off the program.
Opening and Atmosphere
District Mayor Martin Schaefer opened the market at 12 PM, emphasizing the importance of the topic for the district. Admission was free, the weather mild – a typical late summer weekend in East Berlin.
