Regional Market for the Day of the Regions — Autumn Harvest from Barnim
The Erntedank-Markt Eberswalde has been held annually on the first Sunday in October since 2006. The organizers are the Lokale Agenda 21 Eberswalde (Local Agenda 21 Eberswalde) in cooperation with the Evangelische Stadtkirche (Protestant City Church). The market is part of the nationwide initiative „Tag der Regionen“ (Day of the Regions), an event that promotes sustainability and regional economy. In Eberswalde, the concept combines a spiritual element (Harvest Thanksgiving service) with a very secular market — a mix that is unique in Brandenburg.
The market brings together regional direct marketers, beekeepers, farmers, small craftspeople, and initiatives from the Barnim district at Kirchplatz. The offerings include:
A special feature: The organizers do not charge market fees from the stallholders. Instead, donations are collected at the end of the day for charitable initiatives in the region. Stallholders are invited to participate in this solidarity campaign. This makes the market not only ecologically but also socially committed.
Families get their own program:
Eberswalde is not the venue by chance: The city is home to the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE), one of Germany's leading universities for ecology, forestry, and nature conservation. This academic environment shapes the city — Eberswalde sees itself as the capital of sustainable Brandenburg. The Erntedank-Markt is therefore more than just a market: it is a showcase of an entire regional identity.
The Maria Magdalena Church is a Gothic sacred building from the 13th century and Eberswalde's oldest landmark. It stands at Kirchplatz, the historic city center. With its brick architecture and the adjacent market square, it creates a special atmosphere for the market day.
The Erntedank-Markt 2026 in Eberswalde will take place on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The organizers are the Lokale Agenda 21 Eberswalde (Local Agenda 21 Eberswalde) and the Evangelische Stadtkirche (Protestant City Church). The market is part of the nationwide campaign „Tag der Regionen“ (Day of the Regions) and promotes local direct marketing and sustainable economy.
On Kirchplatz, in front of the Maria Magdalena Church, 40 to 50 vendors will present Brandenburg direct products, seasonal vegetables, honey, sausages, cheese, and crafts. A children's program with pony rides, straw games, and craft stations will accompany the event.
