The city centre becomes a festival backdrop
The Waldstadt-Festival is Eberswalde's major city centre festival. On June 5 and 6, 2026, the entire old town — from the market square to the city promenade, from the church hill to the Weidendamm — will transform into a continuous festival grounds. Opening on Friday at 5:00 PM, winding down late Saturday evening. Free admission. Organised by the City of Eberswalde.
5 stages — five profiles
The festival's hallmark is its spatial distribution across 5 stages, each with its own programme profile:
- Stadtpromenade: Main stage with major concerts
- Marktplatz: Family and comedy programme during the day, cover band in the evening
- Kirchhügel: Quieter acoustic acts, singer-songwriters, open-air classical music
- Weidendamm: Children's and youth programme, street art, juggling, walking acts
- Goethestraße / Friedrich-Ebert-Straße / Michaelisstraße: Flea market, artisans, food trucks
You stroll from one stage to the next — about a 5 to 10-minute walk apart — and put together your own festival programme.
Theatre, street art, comedy, music
The festival combines four major programme lines: theatre in the form of mobile productions, street art with acrobatics and walking acts, comedy on the market square, and a broad music programme ranging from singer-songwriters to indie pop to cover bands. In addition, there is a classic flea market along Goethestraße and Friedrich-Ebert-Straße — a must-see for collectors, vintage fans, and families.
Gastronomy — Eberswalde specialities
The culinary offerings are a festival highlight in themselves. Local restaurants and food trucks from Barnim and Uckermark present game sausages, game goulash (Eberswalde is located in the middle of the Brandenburg forest), Spreewald specialities, street food from all over the world, and of course, regional beer — especially Eberswalder Pils.
Eberswalde — the forest city in Barnim
With just under 40,000 inhabitants, Eberswalde is the district town of Barnim district and officially bears the nickname Waldstadt (Forest City): About 80% of the city area is forest — a unique proportion for a district town in Germany. This very forest character also shapes the festival: wooden stages, forest atmosphere among the city trees, information on forestry and nature conservation at several stands.
