Grand light festival at Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen with a 2 km light trail, 7 themed worlds, and over 1,000 light installations
With the "Nature's Wonders" light festival, Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen opens its own winter season. While the regular park takes a break from November, the front section is transformed into a light park, attracting visitors for over four months – from November 6th, 2026, to February 28th, 2027. The concept aligns with the international wave of light parks that have become popular in zoos and botanical gardens worldwide in recent years.
The circular trail is 2 kilometers long and leads through seven themed worlds, each staging a different natural motif. Over 1,000 light installations and more than 10,000 LEDs turn trees, bushes, paths, and squares into luminous visual worlds. Animal motifs – elephants, giraffes, birds, butterflies – alternate with plant motifs, landscape installations, and abstract light sculptures.
From December 18th to 28th, 2026, the "Christmas Express," an illuminated festive procession, will travel through the park. Families can experience the light installations from a different perspective on a short ride. This offering is particularly popular with children and is included in the admission price.
The light festival is open from Thursday to Sunday and daily during Lower Saxony school holidays. Opening hours are from 1:30 PM to 9 PM. The park is still bright in the early hours, and the full effect of the lights unfolds after dark. Families with young children often visit during the earlier hours, while adults and couples prefer the evening.
Admission is €14.50 for children aged 3 to 6 and €23.50 for adults. Children under 3 enter for free. Family tickets and discounted tickets for specific groups are available on the park's website.
The light festival runs as a separate season for almost four months. A total of around 80 opening days are planned. Attendance is expected to be high, especially on Fridays, Saturdays, and during the Christmas holidays – early arrival or purchasing tickets online is recommended.
The seven themed worlds embrace the "Nature's Wonders" concept, each staging a different aspect of nature: Tropics, Desert, Polar Regions, Forest, Ocean, Mountains, and Savanna. The order on the trail is orchestrated by the park, allowing visitors to experience a narrative journey from one world to the next.
The light festival is designed as a self-explanatory circular trail. The following schedule is planned for the 2026/2027 season:
