Saarland Farmers' Festival with 400 vintage tractors – every two years
Numborn is a district of the municipality of Heusweiler in the Regionalverband Saarbrücken with just under 1,000 inhabitants. Small, quiet, rural – except every two years. Then the local Numborn Farmers' Association invites you to the Bauernfest (farmers' festival), which is known far beyond the borders of the Saarland for its size and presentation.
The Bauernfest is a mix of farmers' market, folk festival (Volksfest), and agricultural machinery exhibition. Around 60 stands are spread throughout the village. Self-marketers from the Saarland and the surrounding region offer fish, regional cheese, farm-made sausages, honey, spices, baked goods, and decorative items. The assortment is not aimed at souvenir-seeking tourists, but at people who want to know where their food comes from.
The crowd-puller is the vintage tractor exhibition: Around 400 historic tractors and agricultural machines are lined up – from Lanz Bulldog to Eicher, from Deutz to Hanomag, well-maintained and often ready to drive. In addition, regional farmers present current machinery and demonstrations.
The festival begins on Friday with a children's festival, featuring traditional crafts: blacksmithing in a mobile forge, sheep shearing, beekeepers with demonstration hives and honey tasting, and basket weavers offering their techniques for participation. A conscious impartation of knowledge that has little room in urban schools today.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, cover bands provide entertainment in a heated festival hall. The food is decidedly Saarlandic and down-to-earth: Spießbraten (which shouldn't be missing here), schnitzel with fries, currywurst, bratwurst, accompanied by regional beer, Saarwein (Saar wine), and Schoppen (local wine variations).
The Numborner Bauernfest has been held for decades in even-numbered years – so again in 2026. It is one of the most famous folk festivals in rural Saarland and attracts visitors from the entire region, from Saarlouis to neighboring France.
The Numborn Farmers' Association will host its biennial Bauernfest again in the summer months of 2026. The specific date and detailed program are expected to be published in spring 2026 on bauernvereinnumborn.de and the Heusweiler municipal website. The fixed elements are certain: the three-day farmers' market with self-marketers, the vintage tractor show, the children's festival with craft demonstrations, and the evening program in the festival hall.
The final 2026 program will be published in good time at bauernvereinnumborn.de.
Free admission. Food and purchases at the stands.
