When the B268 becomes a festival mile

Heusweiler is centrally located in the Köllertal, one of the most densely populated regions of the northern Saarbrücken regional association. The federal highway B268, which runs through the town, is normally busy – but on the second weekend of September, it is consistently closed to traffic for two days and transformed into a promenade.

The components of the Herbstmarkt

• Funfair on the market square – rides, carousels, snack stands
• Street market along the B268 – market stalls with regional and supra-regional vendors
• Vintage car meet by AMC Heusweiler e.V. (ADAC) – on Sunday morning from 10 am
• Ecumenical field service on Sunday from 11 am at the stand of the Reservistenkameradschaft Köllertal
• Town hall concert / Town hall stage – live music on Sunday afternoon
• Car show of modern models
• Food stalls with Saarland specialities and international cuisine

Live music with Midnight Special

A regular fixture for musical accompaniment is the band Midnight Special, which has regularly performed on the town hall stage on Sunday afternoons in recent years. In addition, other regional bands and clubs take turns – a deliberately regionally anchored music programme.

A family weekend

Unlike the major city festivals of the Saarland metropolises, the Heusweiler Herbstmarkt is a true family event. During the day, there is plenty of entertainment for children, and in the evenings, the classic Volksfest atmosphere develops in the festival areas. Families from the Köllertal, neighbouring Saarbrücken, and Lebach often use the weekend for a full day trip.

There are a number of Herbstmärkte and Stadtfeste in the Saarland in September. The Heusweiler Herbstmarkt is one of the largest and most traffic-calmed – the closure of the B268 creates a particularly spacious festival area. The municipality of Heusweiler also uses the format for location marketing: those who visit Heusweiler once often return.
