Concept of the Culinary Festival
Emden à la Carte brings together the city's top gastronomy on a single open-air stage: the Neuer Markt in Emden's city center. Instead of classic beer tent catering, participating restaurants serve refined small dishes in tasting portions, allowing visitors to sample several establishments in one evening. The atmosphere is both sophisticated and casual.
Participating Restaurants
A number of renowned establishments are announced for the 2026 edition: Hotel Faldernpoort, Der Ostfriese, Santino, Upstalsboom Parkhotel, Schokoladenhotel Voss, and Goldener Adler. The list may be supplemented or changed at short notice; current information can be found on the website of the City of Emden and the Tourist Information.
Opening Hours and Atmosphere
The event starts on Friday from 4 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. Standing tables, rows of benches, and lounge areas will be set up on the Neuer Markt. A stage in the background provides a subtle live music program. Free admission – only individual dishes and drinks are paid for directly at the restaurant stands.
Revival of the Festival
After several years of absence, Emden à la Carte was successfully revived in 2025. The response was so positive that the event will continue as a regular annual format in 2026. The Emden Museum Night takes place concurrently on August 8th, offering an extended city weekend for culture enthusiasts.
Emden à la Carte — edition 2026
The 2026 program builds on the successful revival in 2025 and re-establishes Emden à la Carte as an annual event. Each participating restaurant presents a stand with a small menu of tasting portions, offering a cross-section of their in-house offerings. The combination with the Emden Museum Night on August 8th and the ongoing summer cultural program allows for a comprehensive city visit over the weekend.
The Neuer Markt offers ample space for stands, seating, and a subtle stage program. In case of very high attendance, additional seating and standing tables will be provided.
Programme Emden à la Carte 2026
The exact program for 2026 will be published by Kulturevents Emden in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
- Friday, 07.08.2026, from 4:00 p.m. – Opening, first tasting rounds
- Saturday, 08.08.2026, from 12:00 p.m. – Full festival day, concurrent Emden Museum Night
- Sunday, 09.08.2026, from 12:00 p.m. – Culinary Sunday, family offers
- Throughout: approx. 6 participating restaurants with small dishes
- Accompanying live music program on stage
