About Backfischfest Edingen
Backfischfest Edingen — edition 2026
Backfischfest 2026 at the Anglerheim
The Backfischfest 2026 will likely take place on the third weekend of August. The Edingen Angling Club e.V. will open the Anglerheim for three festival days from Saturday to Monday. The highlight: freshly fried Backfisch — zander, char, baked eel, and roach from their own catch or sourced from regional professional fishermen.
The covered beer garden makes the festival independent of the weather; the club house can accommodate over 200 guests. Live music on Saturday evening, lunch specials and family program on Sunday, and the traditional "Handwerker-Frühschoppen" on Monday.
Note: Due to extreme summer heat, the festival has been postponed to the 3rd weekend of September in some previous editions. The final date for 2026 will be confirmed a few weeks in advance by the Angling Club and the municipal administration.

Backfischfest with Tradition
The Edingen Angling Club e.V. has been organizing the Edinger Backfischfest for over six decades — a Volksfest (popular festival) that originated from the club life of the Neckar anglers and remains one of the most popular festival events in the twin community of Edingen-Neckarhausen to this day. Freshly fried fish in batter (hence the name "Backfischfest"), regional dishes, beer tent atmosphere, and a program that attracts regular visitors from the entire Rhein-Neckar district.
Classic Backfisch Variations
The focus is on fried fish in batter: zander, char, baked eel, and roach — all caught by the club's anglers or sourced from friendly professional fishermen in the region. In addition, there are trout from a charcoal grill, smoked fish (to take away or eat on-site), fries, potato salad, bread, and draft beer. Vegetarian options are also available — battered mushrooms and grilled vegetables.
Anglerheim and Beer Garden
The venue is the Anglerheim at Hauptstraße 4 in Edingen, with a large covered beer garden, club house, and a small stage. The covered area makes the festival independent of the weather — even during summer thunderstorms, which are not uncommon in the Rhein-Neckar region in August, the festival continues undisturbed.
Three Festival Days Saturday to Monday
Traditionally, the Backfischfest runs from Saturday to Monday (three days). The festival starts on Saturday with an opening in the late afternoon and live music in the evening. Sunday is the big family day with lunch specials, a children's program, and live bands. Monday concludes the festival as a cozy "Handwerker-Tag" (craftsmen's day) with a Frühschoppen (morning pint).
Edingen-Neckarhausen in the Rhein-Neckar District
Edingen-Neckarhausen is a twin community formed from the formerly independent towns of Edingen and Neckarhausen on the right bank of the Neckar in the Rhein-Neckar district, opposite Mannheim. With around 14,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger communities in the district and is directly connected to Mannheim and Heidelberg via the OEG tram. Besides the Kerwe (church fair) weekend, the Backfischfest is the most important date in the local festival calendar.
