Ilvesheim Island Fishermen's Festival

One Island, One Association, One Festival Since 1968

Ilvesheim is a special place on the Neckar: the municipality, with around 9,000 inhabitants, is located entirely on an island between the Neckar and an old Neckar arm — the only true island municipality in Baden-Württemberg. The Anglers' Association 1928 Ilvesheim e.V. has been organizing the Island Fishermen's Festival since the late 1960s, which has now become a fixed summer event in the Rhein-Neckar district. The 56th edition from June 5th to 8th, 2026, continues this tradition: four days of festival tent on the grounds at Brückenstraße 76, right by the outdoor pool and the Neckar.

Non-stop Fish Bakery

The defining element of the Island Fishermen's Festival is the fish bakery. The Anglers' Association itself bakes and fries fresh fish — trout, carp, salmon, fried fish — and serves it at the counter, all day and non-stop, also for takeaway. Those who order trout "Müllerin Art" with boiled potatoes, fried fish in a bun, or carp "blue" are eating fish that often swam in the association's tanks only hours before. Alongside, there are fries, salads, pretzels, and currywurst. In the beer tent, association members serve Pilsner, wheat beer, and mixed drinks, with the cocktail bar behind it expanding the offerings to include summer long drinks.

Amusement Park, Live Music, Fireworks

Around the festival tent, an amusement park unfolds with a carousel, swing ride, shooting gallery, and snack stands. Live bands play on the stage in the tent every evening — cover bands for Schlager, rock, and party music, local bands from the Rhein-Neckar region. During the day, there is a children's program with entertainment, games, and face painting. The absolute highlight is traditionally the grand fireworks display on one of the evenings — usually Saturday or Sunday, the exact day will be announced in advance. The fireworks rise from the Neckar bank and can be seen across the entire island.

Association Festival with Island Character

The Island Fishermen's Festival is classic association work: the members of the Anglers' Association serve drinks, bake fish, man the counter, and set up and take down. The proceeds finance the association's activities — training young anglers, water maintenance, and renaturation projects on the Neckar. For Ilvesheim, the festival is a major social event: anyone living in the municipality visits at least once over the weekend. Visitors from Mannheim, Heidelberg, and the entire Rhein-Neckar district also come — the location directly by the outdoor pool and the Neckar makes the festival one of the most attractive summer events in the region.
