Street food in the villa district
Zehlendorf—the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf—is not exactly known as a festival location. The green southwest between Wannsee, Schlachtensee, and Grunewald is more established as a residential area for the upper middle class. This is precisely what makes the Street Food Festival Zehlendorf so appealing: a sophisticated food truck festival in a residential area that is normally associated more with family lunches in cafés than with open-air snacks.
Food truck mix from the Berlin repertoire
The festival follows the Jüttner Entertainment formula, which works in several Berlin districts (Tegeler Sommer in Reinickendorf, Street Food Festival Reinickendorf, other markets in the region): a curated mix of food trucks and snack stands, plus drinks and live music. Typical offerings: Vietnamese Bao Buns, Filipino Lechon, South American Empanadas, Italian Pizza al Taglio, Israeli Falafel, vegan burgers, crêpes, candied almonds, craft beer.
- Where: Parking lot Onkel-Tom-Straße / Sven-Hedin-Straße, 14169 Berlin
- District: Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Zehlendorf borough
- Admission: Model of the series (small symbolic entry fee or free)
- Getting there: U-Bahn U3 to U Onkel Toms Hütte (3 min walk)
Onkel Toms Hütte—the station as a neighborhood
The name “Onkel Toms Hütte" comes from a 19th-century excursion restaurant named after Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel. The housing estate, built by Bruno Taut from 1926 as a Bauhaus settlement, is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The street food festival takes place in the immediate vicinity of this listed architecture—a backdrop that is unusually elegant for a food truck event.
