Traditional Pentecost shooting festival of the shooting club Zur Linde Kathrinhagen-Westerwald
Every year at Pentecost, Kathrinhagen experiences an exceptional atmosphere. The shooting club Zur Linde Kathrinhagen-Westerwald, founded over a hundred years ago, is one of the village's defining associations. Its shooting festival is not just a club event but a village festival – with participation from residents, neighboring clubs, and guests from all over the Auetal.
The festival begins on Friday evening with a lively disco night for the younger generations. Saturday features the traditional festive parade with a marching band and shooting club banners, the king's shooting competition, and in the evening, the grand dance night with a live band. Sunday concludes with a morning pint, a family program, the king's proclamation, and the king's reception.
A special feature of the club is the unusually long reign of shooting king Lars Gromann. Proclaimed in 2019, he has represented the club ever since – pandemic-related breaks and club decisions led to this exceptionally long regency. This gives the monarchy in Kathrinhagen special stability and is a cornerstone of the festival culture.
Kathrinhagen is a small district of the municipality Auetal in the Schaumburg district. The connection with the neighboring town of Westerwald is also reflected in the name of the shooting club. The annual Pentecost festival is a fixed event in village life, bringing together young and old at the festival grounds to celebrate tradition, conviviality, and club life.
The festival tent opens as early as Pentecost Friday. Starting at 9:00 PM, the disco night with a DJ begins – a format that appeals particularly to the younger generation of the village and ensures a full dance floor until late into the night.
Saturday is dedicated to the festive parade, the king's shooting competition, and the grand festival evening in the tent. On Sunday, a morning pint, family day, and the ceremonial proclamation of the new monarchs or confirmation of the reigning King Lars Gromann follow.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
