Fest der Kulturen Kirchberg (Hunsrück)

The Fest der Kulturen in Kirchberg/Hunsrück is an intercultural event that celebrates the cultural diversity of the historic Hunsrück town with a joint festival. Kirchberg is one of the oldest towns in the Hunsrück, with town privileges dating back to the 14th century, whose compact old town with historic half-timbered houses provides a characteristic backdrop for such a festival.

Like many Hunsrück towns, Kirchberg has a diverse population, composed of long-established families as well as newcomers and immigrants from various countries. The economic development of the region, its proximity to industrial centers in Saarbrücken, Trier, and the Rhine-Main area, as well as its attractive living environment, have drawn people from numerous countries here over the decades. The Fest der Kulturen responds to this diversity with a positive event format.

The focus is on culinary exchange. Stalls offer specialties from around the world—from Turkish Lahmacun and Baklava, Polish Pierogi and Bigos, Italian Pizza and Pasta, Greek Souvlaki and Gyros, Syrian Falafel and Hummus, to African stews, Indian Curry, and Vietnamese spring rolls. German Hunsrück specialties also have their place, underscoring the inclusive concept.

The stage program features dance groups and music ensembles from various cultures: belly dancing from the Orient, Polish and Greek folk dances, Turkish folklore ensembles, Latin American salsa and samba groups, African drumming performances, and choirs. Hunsrück heritage groups also participate, complementing the international performances.

For children, international games, craft activities, and small culinary tastings provide entertainment. The Fest der Kulturen aims to be a space for encounters that enrich the daily lives of Kirchberg's residents and their guests through exposure to different ways of life.
