Summer festival of the Blankenburg district of the Nordendorf municipality
Blankenburg is one of the historically independent districts of Nordendorf, a municipality in the Augsburg district in Bavarian Swabia. Nestled between the Lech lowlands and the Danube, the village is one of the charming small settlements in the northern Augsburg region. Those who live here know their neighbours. And once a year, this small community comes together for the traditional Dorffest Blankenburg.
The village festival typically takes place on a Sunday in early August. For several hours — usually from late afternoon to late evening — the village square becomes a festival area. Beer benches, parasol stands, a stage for the Musikverein Nordendorf and other local associations, a barbecue, a cake stand: that's all you need for a perfect Swabian village festival.
The Musikverein Nordendorf, which co-organizes the village festival and plays on stage, is a fixture in the community's club life. Brass music with a Franconian-Bavarian flavour, along with swaying songs and folk classics — that's the sound that shapes the village festival. Children play between the tables, older residents engage in good village conversations, young families grab fries and steak from the grill.
Swabian classics land on the tables: bratwurst rolls, grilled steaks, fries, Käsespätzle, pork knuckles, accompanied by beer from regional breweries and coffee with homemade cakes in the afternoon.
Such district festivals are not a tourist spectacle — and that's precisely their charm. They are the lived social life of a small community. The proceeds from food and drinks typically go towards club activities, clubhouses, club uniforms, youth work, or local charitable projects.
Visitors to the village festival can extend their day in the region: the Lechtal valley with its cycle paths, the Wittelsbach waterworks, the historic old town of Donauwörth or Augsburg itself are reachable in 20 to 40 minutes by car.
The Dorffest Blankenburg 2026 will take place on Sunday evening, August 2, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the village square of Blankenburg, a district of Nordendorf. Four summer hours with the entire village community and guests from the region.
The Musikverein Nordendorf provides the musical entertainment, and the local associations take care of the catering. A charming, manageable event that shows what village life looks like in Bavarian Swabia today.
Current details will be announced on the Nordendorf municipality website and on the event pages of the Musikverein Nordendorf.
Nordendorf-Blankenburg can be reached via the B2 (Augsburg–Donauwörth) and local roads. By car from Augsburg approx. 25 min., from Donauwörth approx. 20 min. By train to Nordendorf (Augsburg–Donauwörth line), then walk or take a bus to Blankenburg.
Admission to the village festival is free. Food and drinks are sold at fair village festival prices, with proceeds supporting the clubs and village life in Blankenburg/Nordendorf.
The festival is open-air; in case of rain, arrangements will be improvised. Pack sun protection and possibly a light jacket for the late evening.
