Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet in the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis
Donaueschingen is the setting for one of southwestern Germany's most traditional Fasnets. The Narrenzunft Frohsinn Donaueschingen preserves Swabian-Alemannic customs with carved wooden masks, magnificent costumes (Häs), and carefully maintained figure traditions. The Donaueschingen Fasnet 2026 is spread over several weekends: the central dates are February 7 (Guild Ball), February 14 (Fun Music Evening), and February 15 (Grand City Parade).
Program of the Main Weekends
Saturday, February 7, 2026 — Guild Ball in the Donauhallen: the social highlight of the season, featuring the guild's mask parade, show program, and dancing for guilds, clubs, and guests. Saturday, February 14, 2026 — Fun Music Evening: from 6:00 PM, 'Gaudimusiken' (typical Fasnet bands with wind instruments, drums, and sing-alongs) play in the city center restaurants — guests move from one venue to the next. Sunday, February 15, 2026 — Grand City Parade: starting at 2:00 PM, the season's central parade takes place through the city center — Narrenzunft Frohsinn, friendly guilds from the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis and the surrounding Black Forest region, music bands, float processions.
The Narrenzunft Frohsinn
The Narrenzunft Frohsinn Donaueschingen is the city's central carnival society. It maintains several traditional costume groups (Hästräger-Gruppen) with their specific wooden masks (Larven) and costumes (Häs) — including Wuhrloch-Hexen (Witch of the Wehrloch), Hofnarren (Court Jesters), and other figures. The mask art of the Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet is part of the intangible cultural heritage and is carefully preserved in Donaueschingen.
Donaueschingen — Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis and Danube Spring
Donaueschingen, with just under 23,000 inhabitants, is located in the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis district in the state of Baden-Württemberg, on the southeastern edge of the Black Forest. The city is famous for the Danube spring (Donauquelle) in the palace park — the symbolic starting point of the Danube River. In the festival calendar of the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis, the Donaueschingen Fasnet, along with the Villingen Fasnet, is one of the central events — and is considered a typical example of the preservation of Alpine-Southern German mask customs.

2026 Program
The Narrenzunft Frohsinn Donaueschingen organizes the 2026 Fasnet with its classic three-pillar program: the social Guild Ball on the first weekend, the Fun Music Evening on Fasnet Saturday, and the Grand City Parade on Shrove Sunday. Accompanying events include the typical Hemdglonker (shirt-wearer) and citizen gatherings, which will be published in the guild's detailed schedule.
The mask art of the Swabian-Alemannic Fasnet is fully showcased during the Grand City Parade — witches, court jesters, Wuhrloch figures, and other costumed groups parade through the city center. Friendly guilds from the Schwarzwald-Baar-Kreis (Villingen, Schwenningen, Bräunlingen, Hüfingen) and the wider Black Forest region participate with their own costumes and bands.

City parade along the roadside is free. Guild Ball admission is via advance purchase from Narrenzunft Frohsinn — typical prices €15–€25. Visiting the Fun Music Evening venues is subject to restaurant consumption prices. No festival tent organized by the guild.

Getting There
Donaueschingen is accessible via the A 81 motorway (Donaueschingen exit) and the B 27 federal road. By train via the Schwarzwaldbahn (Karlsruhe–Offenburg–Konstanz) and the Donaueschingen–Villingen railway line. Donaueschingen station is located directly in the city center, with short distances to all event venues.
