Trance and Hardtrance Culture in Hamburg

The Outside World Festival is one of the central hubs for the Trance and Hardtrance community in Northern Germany. Unlike commercial mainstream EDM festivals, Outside World focuses on the specific sub-genres that have shaped European rave since the 90s — Trance, Hardtrance, HandsUp — and complements them with the contemporary techno line of the main stage.

Edelfettwerk in Stellingen

The venue is the Edelfettwerk at Schnackenburgallee 202, in the district of Stellingen (Eimsbüttel borough). The former industrial building is one of Hamburg's established rave locations and offers the spatial requirements for four parallel floors: Main Stage, Hardtrance Stage, Trance Stage, and HandsUp Stage.

The programming brings together names that carry weight in the electronic music culture of the 90s and 2000s:

• Thomas Schumacher — Berlin Techno heavyweight, Spielzeit veteran
• Kai Tracid — German Hardtrance icon
• DJ Quicksilver — Pioneer of German Trance in the 90s
• Talla 2XLC — Co-founder of the Trance genre in Germany
• Plus headliner replacement DJ RAW aka DUNE (for Charly Lownoise, who had to cancel due to illness)

Long Rave Night, LGBTQIA+-Affirmative

The festival runs in a rave format from 9 PM to 6 AM — a classic long night transitioning from Trance classics to reduced sets in the early morning hours. The event is explicitly tagged LGBTQIA+-affirmative: Outside World emphasizes an inclusive atmosphere that, unlike many festivals in the EDM scene, explicitly includes queer communities.

Admission from 18 years, with parental consent from 16. The festival positions itself as a serious rave event with a safety and awareness concept — not a "come-as-you-want" party format, but a curated Trance night with a clear identity.
