The central civic festival for German Unity in the Hanseatic city
Because Bremen holds the presidency of the Bundesrat (Federal Council) in 2026, Germany's smallest and oldest republic will host the central celebration for the Day of German Unity. From October 2nd to 4th, the Hanseatic city will transform into a grand festival mile: the city center, the Schlachte along the Weser riverbank, the Osterdeich, and the Weser Stadium will become the stage for a three-day civic festival under the motto 'Many Strengths — One Country'.
The centerpiece is the 'Ländermeile' (Federal States Mile) at Osterdeich, where all 16 federal states will present themselves with elaborate pavilions. On the 'Blaulichtmeile' (Blue Light Mile), all emergency services will be showcased — from fire departments to rescue services. The 'Seemeile' (Sea Mile) will feature special watercraft, in keeping with the maritime tradition of the Hanseatic city. The constitutional bodies — Bundestag, Bundesrat, Federal Government, and Federal Constitutional Court — will present their work in the Weser Stadium, making democracy tangible.
Numerous stages will offer guests a diverse program of concerts, theater, and discussions. A large concert stage will be set up on the Domshof, and the Weser Stadium will open its doors for special 'living room concerts'. A family area with play and creative activities will round off the festival. The Senate anticipates 300,000 to 400,000 visitors from all over Germany — a historic major event for the Hanseatic city on the Weser.
