Overview
The celebrations for the Day of German Unity 2025 took place in Saarland with a central civic festival in Saarbrücken, as Saarland held the Bundesrat presidency that year. As every year, the host federal state organized a large civic festival with a Federal States Mile, concerts, and the presentation of the constitutional bodies. The 2025 edition formed the immediate prelude to Bremen's hosting in 2026, when the Hanseatic city will once again be the central host of the nationwide festival for the first time in a long time.
The Day of German Unity 2025 was hosted by Saarland as part of its rotating presidency of the Bundesrat. The central civic festival in Saarbrücken followed the established format with a Federal States Mile, stage program, and the presentation of constitutional bodies. With the change of the Bundesrat presidency, the hosting responsibility then passed to the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, which is bringing the festival back to the North German Hanseatic city in 2026 for the first time in many years.
