Christopher Street Day of the Seaport — colourful, loud, and solidarity
When a colourful parade moves through the centre of Bremerhaven, rainbow flags wave and music echoes through the streets, it's Christopher Street Day. The CSD Bremerhaven combines a political message with a jubilant festival: it commemorates the struggle for the rights of queer people and at the same time celebrates diversity, visibility, and self-determination. Creative costumes, dance, and a loud togetherness characterise the demonstration march, which is followed by a rally in the heart of the city with a diverse, political, and empowering programme. In 2025, the CSD attracted around 1,000 to 1,200 people under the motto "Nie wieder still — loud and proud" (Never silent again — loud and proud).
The first CSD in Bremerhaven took place in 2022; until 2025, it was organised by CSD Bremen + Bremerhaven e.V. After four successful editions, the Bremerhaven team wanted more independence and scope for design — and founded their own association, Queerhaven e.V., which will organise and run the CSD independently from 2026 onwards; an initial meeting for the 2026 edition already took place in September 2025. This gives the queer community of the Seaport its own permanent structure that extends beyond the CSD. The message remains clear: never silent again.
Bremerhaven is a cosmopolitan port city with a long tradition of encounters. The CSD builds on this and makes the city a stage for tolerance and lived diversity in the state of Bremen for one day. After-parties in the Havenwelten with a view of the water extend the celebration into the evening — a festival that combines political stance and good spirits in a Hanseatic way.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Christopher Street Day in Bremerhaven enters a new era: for the first time, the specially founded association Queerhaven e.V. — which emerged from the previous organising team — will organise the CSD independently. A colourful parade will move through the city centre and end at a rally square with a stage programme of music and discussion rounds. In previous years, the demonstration started at 12 p.m. at the Historisches Museum and proceeded through the city centre to Theodor-Heuss-Platz; whether the same route will be used in 2026 will be announced by Queerhaven e.V. in good time on csd-bremerhaven.org or queerhaven.de. Music, dance, and creative costumes characterise the procession; groups, associations, and individuals can register as a walking group or with a stand at the rally square. After-parties in the Havenwelten with a view of the water will extend the celebration into the evening.
The specific stage programme for 2026 (acts, speakers, times) as well as the locations of the after-parties will be announced by the new organiser Queerhaven e.V. in good time before July 11 on csd-bremerhaven.org and queerhaven.de.
The parade and rally take place in the city centre of Bremerhaven, with after-parties in the Havenwelten by the water. Both areas are centrally located and easily accessible by bus and train.
Participation in the parade and rally is free. Admission fees may apply for individual parties.
The exact meeting point and route will be announced by the organisers. Current information at csd-bremerhaven.org.
