Your winter fairytale by the sea with a sea of lights and a Ferris wheel
As the dark season begins, Bremerhaven's city center transforms into a sparkling winter fairytale by the sea. Around the Große Kirche, along the pedestrian zone, and on Theodor-Heuss-Platz, stalls, rides, and over 500 festively decorated fir trees line up. Approximately 200,000 LED lights bathe the city in a warm sea of lights — and in the midst of it all, the scent of roasted almonds mixes with the unmistakable sea air of the North Sea.
The large Ferris wheel offers a wide panoramic view of the festively decorated seaside city from over 30 meters high. In addition, there are fairytale huts, light installations, and photo spots that invite you to linger. The free supporting program includes an ice climbing wall, a laser and fire show, children's activities, walk-acts, and the traditional St. Nicholas parade. On Theodor-Heuss-Platz, the "Kleine Weihnachtswelt" (Little Christmas World) invites you to browse with wood crafts, jewelry, ceramics, and mead on the Advent weekends.
As an important port city at the mouth of the Weser, Bremerhaven cultivates its very own, maritime-influenced Advent tradition. The Christmas market combines Hanseatic coziness with the rugged charm of the coast — a winter fairytale by the sea that attracts the entire region. A guided gourmet tour invites you to stroll through the market, feast, and listen to stories.
From November 23 to December 30, 2026, Bremerhaven's city center around the Große Kirche, the pedestrian zone, and Theodor-Heuss-Platz will once again transform into a maritime winter fairytale by the sea. Around 200,000 LED lights and over 500 decorated fir trees will bathe the city in a sea of lights; at the entrance, the large, colorful Ferris wheel will turn. Permanent highlights include the illuminated photo spots, the fairytale huts, the illuminated Große Kirche, and the free supporting program with an ice climbing wall, laser and fire show, and the traditional St. Nicholas parade. A guided gourmet tour invites you to stroll through the market, feast, and listen to stories. The organizer is Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH.
Usually open daily 11 a.m.–9 p.m., except December 24, 25, and 26. The organizer typically announces the exact times for the St. Nicholas parade and show dates for 2026 shortly before the season begins in November.
