A Spiritual Tradition in the Allgäu

The annual Crescentia Pilgrimage Day connects the parishes of Bidingen and Biessenhofen with the Crescentia Convent in Kaufbeuren. The aim is to venerate Saint Maria Crescentia Höß (1682–1744), a cloistered nun from Kaufbeuren, who was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2001. She is regarded as a spiritual advisor and patron saint of the Allgäu region.

Walking Pilgrimage

The pilgrims start early in the morning from Bidingen and cover the distance on foot in several stages. Meeting points for fellow pilgrims are available at various points along the route from 6:15 AM in Bidingen. Around 11:00 AM, the groups arrive at the Crescentia Convent in Kaufbeuren, where Father Jakob celebrates the pilgrimage mass.

"Pilgrims of Hope" – The Motto for 2026

The guiding theme for 2026 is "Pilgrims of Hope", echoing the motto of the Holy Year 2025. The pilgrimage day is conceived as a shared experience of faith: walking together, praying, singing, and pausing together at wayside shrines and small chapels along the route.

Crescentia and Kaufbeuren

The Crescentia Convent in the old town of Kaufbeuren (Ostallgäu district / independent city) is now both a pilgrimage site and a memorial. A guided tour of the memorial site and the Klosterberg garden complement the pilgrimage day. For those staying longer, the Crescentia Pilgrimage Trail, a circular route of approximately 90 km through Ost- and Unterallgäu, can be explored in four stages.

Crescentia Pilgrimage — edition 2026
