Tile stoves, arts and crafts, and Brandenburg's largest advent calendar
In 2026, the Christmas Market at the Stove and Ceramics Museum Velten celebrates its 30th anniversary — three decades of tradition in one of Brandenburg's most unusual settings. The venue is the former Stove Factory A. Schmidt, Lehmann & Co. in Velten, a heritage-listed industrial ensemble from the era when Velten entered the history of Berlin and Brandenburg as the "City of Stoves". The factory silhouette with its brick facades and glowing chimney becomes a stage during Advent.
Between 1850 and 1990, Velten was the German center for tile stove production. Millions of stoves for apartments in Berlin and all of Northern Germany were produced here. Today, the Stove and Ceramics Museum Velten commemorates this tradition — and the Advent market combines industrial culture with Christmas spirit like no other market in the Berlin surrounding area.
A special feature is the Factory Illumination: Starting December 1st, the windows of the factory complex are illuminated every evening — one after another, as "probably Brandenburg's largest advent calendar". When the entire building glows, it's Christmas. This illumination can be admired even outside the market weekend.
Velten is located in the Oberhavel district, about 30 km north of Berlin, and is easily accessible by S-Bahn S25 or RE6 train. If you're planning a whole weekend, consider a trip to the nearby Oranienburg Palace or the Sachsenhausen Memorial — important sites of remembrance in the region.
The 30th Christmas Market at the Stove Museum Velten marks an anniversary: for three decades, the market has evolved from a small gathering into a regionally renowned Advent event. The 3rd Advent weekend (December 12–13, 2026) is the usual date.
The market takes place in the historic factory halls of the former Stove Factory A. Schmidt, Lehmann & Co. Over 30 stalls present arts and crafts: ceramics from Velten's pottery tradition, regional jewelry, textiles, and woodwork. A special feature is the Light Labyrinth with fire pits, which winds through the entire industrial site.
For children, there is the TonEntdecker Workshop with guided pottery, a Gingerbread Tile Stove Construction activity, and roasting stick bread over an open fire.
The factory windows are illuminated nightly from December 1, 2026 — probably Brandenburg's largest advent calendar. Detailed program and exhibitor list: okmhb.de/weihnachtsmarkt.
