Mertendorf is a small municipality in the Saale-Holzland district in the state of Thuringia, located southeast of Naumburg an der Saale-Unstrut — right on the border with Saxony-Anhalt. The community is small and has an intact village community, at the center of which are the Maibaumgesellschaft, the sports club, and the church community.

The Mertendorf Christmas Market is a deliberately small and intimate market — the official description „small but nice“ precisely captures the atmosphere. On the historic Rundling in front of the village church, there are a few stalls with homemade specialties, handmade goods, and mulled wine. The focus is on the intimacy of the small festival — not a mass event, but a neighborly Advent meeting point.

Program — Music, Organ Music, and Charity

Opening on December 12, 2026, at 3 p.m. Local music groups will play Christmas music on the village square; organ music will be played in the church for several hours. Sweet and savory dishes, homemade cookies, mulled wine, and artisanal gifts will be offered. Part of the proceeds supports the Parents' Initiative for Children with Cancer Jena e.V. — an important charity aspect of the market.
