Chainsaw Art as a Sport

Speedcarving is a relatively young discipline of chainsaw art: using chainsaws, hand tools, and carving tools, artists create sculptures from wooden blocks under time pressure. The German Speedcarving Championship e.V. organizes qualification and competition events throughout Germany for this purpose.

The Garden of the Senses

The venue in Rauschwitz is the "Garden of the Senses", a privately maintained park by Christian and Jana Schmidt, offering an idyllic setting for such events. The free qualification event pursues a dual goal: official point allocation for the national championship and a training camp for exchange, feedback, and further development of chainsaw art.

Competition in Two Classes

Participants compete in two classes, presenting their works to a jury according to strict but fair criteria. Beyond the points awarded, the focus is on professional exchange: carvers and jurors discuss evaluation standards, techniques, and creative approaches.

Rauschwitz is a small municipality in the Saale-Holzland district, east of Jena. The region between the Saale and Elster valleys is scenically attractive and, with the Garden of the Senses, hosts a unique cultural site that has gained supra-regional fame through wood art events.
