Traditional folk festival on the Finow Canal in Schorfheide
Finowfurt is a district of the municipality of Schorfheide in the Barnim district, about 60 km northeast of Berlin. The village is located on the Finow Canal, Germany's oldest artificial waterway completed in 1620, which once connected the Havel and Oder rivers. Logging shaped the region for centuries — the people of Eberswalde and Finowfurt were known as timber rafters throughout Brandenburg. The annual Flößerfest keeps this heritage alive and makes it tangible for today's generations.
The Flößerfest has been celebrated annually since 1996, with one or two pandemic-related interruptions. The 29th edition in 2026 continues the tradition without delay. The festival is organized by Laubinger Event GmbH on behalf of the Schorfheide municipality — an event agency from Brandenburg that manages a good dozen city and local festivals in the region.
The festival grounds extend over Erzbergerplatz and the adjacent Hauptstraße in Finowfurt. For 2026, the following are expected:
The Flößerfest is one of the few major festival weekends in the region with completely free admission. Payment is made directly at the stalls and for the rides. This makes the festival an accessible option for families on a budget for a summer weekend in Barnim.
For those staying longer, there's the opportunity to explore Schorfheide — one of Brandenburg's largest contiguous forest areas, with the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve at its core. The nearby Finowfurt Aviation Museum on the grounds of the former military airfield is worth a visit. The canal monuments of the Finow Canal — locks, towpaths, old bridges — can be experienced on cycling or hiking trails.
The 29th Finowfurter Flößerfest 2026 will be celebrated from July 3rd to 5th, 2026, at Erzbergerplatz and Hauptstraße in Finowfurt. The organizer is Laubinger Event GmbH on behalf of the Schorfheide municipality. The festival is one of the annual major events in the Barnim district and attracts thousands of visitors from the region and from Berlin.
The festival weekend will be opened on Friday at 8 PM by Mayor Wilhelm Westerkamp. The main stage at Erzbergerplatz will feature a program of Schlager, Pop, and Rock music for three days — in previous editions, featuring artists like Annemarie Eilfeld, Duo NEON, and the Country Duo Fairschäft, among others. The final 2026 lineup will be published before the festival begins at gemeinde-schorfheide.de.
