The Classic Rock Festival on the Franconian Brombachsee
Lieder am See is Franconia's most relaxed classic rock festival. Since 2013, the Strandbad Spalt-Enderndorf on the north shore of the Brombachsee has transformed into an open-air concert venue for around 8,000 visitors once a summer. The organizer is the renowned Concertbüro Franken, which focuses on the big names in rock, blues, and folk-rock history with a clear program line – and stands for the appreciation of seasoned rock fans.
The festival grounds cleverly utilize the topography of the lido: a spacious lawn by the water, a generous Franconian beer garden from the Spalter Brauerei, diverse food stands – and the concert stage in the middle. Those who want to go into the water between sets can do so. The special atmosphere that makes the festival unique is precisely this mix of bathing lake idyll and big live sets.
A trademark is the appearance of the MS Brombachsee, Europe's first and largest passenger trimaran. Twice on the festival day, it docks directly at the beach and circles with concertgoers over the lake. This is not just a backdrop, but part of the program.
Lieder am See programmatically focuses on Classic Rock, Hard Rock, and Blues Rock. In recent years, bands such as Wishbone Ash, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Status Quo, Foreigner, Nazareth, and John Mayall have performed on stage – names that still draw crowds in festival programs across Germany. The audience is mature, loyal, and travels from all over Southern Germany.
Spalt is a town of about 5,300 inhabitants in the Landkreis Roth in Middle Franconia, known for its historic hop cultivation and the Spalter Brauerei. The Brombachsee is part of the Franconian Lake District, one of Bavaria's most important artificial lake landscapes. The Enderndorf lido is located about 20 minutes by car south of Nuremberg.
Lieder am See 2026 is concentrated into one festival day and utilizes the Enderndorf lido to its full extent: concert area in front of the stage, Franconian beer garden of the Spalter Brauerei, sunbathing lawn, food stands. Admission and entry begin in the late morning, with bands playing alternately throughout the day into the evening.
With Uriah Heep, Rival Sons, The Stranglers, Magnum, Ten Years After, and The Wailers, the 2026 line-up is among the most high-profile in the festival's history. Classics of classic rock meet modern representatives of the blues-rock revival – a program that clearly highlights the festival's strengths.
Twice on the festival day, the MS Brombachsee docks at the festival beach and circles with concertgoers. Those who are not boat fans can simply stay on the sunbathing lawn and enjoy a "Spalter Maß" (a Maß of beer from Spalt).
