Carwitzer Sunday Matinées
Monthly chamber music and literature matinées at the Hans Fallada Museum Carwitz
2026
About Sunday Matinées
Sunday Matinées — edition 2026
The 2026 season of the Carwitzer Sonntags-Matineen begins in May and runs until August. It is the main season for the Hans Fallada Museum, during which the house is open from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10 am to 5 pm.
On selected Sundays, chamber music concerts take place in the museum garden or hall – professional ensembles from all over Germany perform works from the Renaissance to the present day. The Sonntags-Matineen are more concert-oriented than the Friday readings, without completely abandoning the literary connection to the Hans Fallada heritage.
The exact programme (concert dates, ensembles, repertoire) will be published successively by the Hans Fallada Museum on fallada.de and in the seasonal brochures. Tickets available via [email protected] or Tel. 039831 20359.

About
The Carwitzer Sonntags-Matineen are one of the three permanent event formats of the Hans Fallada Museum in Carwitz, located in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park. While the reading series »Freitags bei Fallada« (Fridays with Fallada) cultivates literary tradition and the »Carwitzer Flimmerstunde« (Carwitz Flicker Hour) has expanded the film profile since 2026, the Sonntags-Matineen represent the musical dimension of the museum.
Concept and Programme
On selected Sundays from May to August, the museum hosts a matinée that combines chamber music with literary elements:
- Works from the Renaissance to the present day
- professional ensembles from all over Germany
- performances in the museum garden at Bohnenwerder or in the museum hall (weather permitting)
- shorter concert duration (typically 60–90 minutes), combined with coffee and conversation after the performance
Location
Carwitz, within the Feldberger Seenlandschaft nature park, is a place with a strong literary connection: Hans Fallada lived and worked here from 1933 to 1945. His former home at Bohnenwerder is now a museum and a cultural centre for the region – hosting readings, concerts, and films since 2026.
Significance in the Regional Classical Calendar
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, there are few regular classical concert venues outside of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (University of Music and Theatre Rostock) and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival). The Sonntags-Matineen at the Hans Fallada Museum specifically fill this gap for the southern part of the state (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte) and offer visitors to the Feldberger Seenlandschaft a recurring classical music offering throughout the summer.
