BMX, Streetball and Music in the Schlachthof Youth Park
What began as a small BMX contest in Flensburg's Schlachthof grounds has become one of Northern Germany's most important action sports events. The non-profit association Sportpiraten Flensburg e.V. has been operating the Schlachthof Youth Park for 25 years as a recognized extracurricular educational institution — with a skate bowl, BMX park, mini-ramp, dirt park, and football and basketball courts. In good weather, around 300 young people and young adults visit the grounds daily. The Butcher Jam Festival is the annual showcase of this work.
In 2026, Sportpiraten will celebrate their quarter-century. The 25th edition of Butcher Jam will be a mega-edition: three festival days, an international BMX contest with a dedicated BMX Girls Class, a 3x3 basketball tournament, streetball, street soccer, a large family program, and an expanded music program with concerts and DJ sets. After-show party on Saturday, May 23rd, from 10 PM at DOCK50 (Schiffbrücke 50).
Sportpiraten Flensburg manages the Youth Park with offices at Brauereiweg 11 and Neustadt 12. The concept is recognized as an extracurricular educational program and is funded by the City of Flensburg, the state of Schleswig-Holstein, and numerous sponsors. The annual Butcher Jam is a point of identification for the scene and a testament to continuous youth work. The Sportpiraten YouTube channel, SchlachthofTV, documents activities year-round.
Flensburg is located in the district of Flensburg (independent city) in the far north of Schleswig-Holstein, directly on the Danish border. The Butcher Jam is networked not only regionally but also in Scandinavia — riders from Denmark, Sweden, and all over Europe are part of the regular audience.
The 25th Butcher Jam is the birthday edition of Sportpiraten Flensburg e.V. — celebrated with an expanded program, international participation, and an additional music lineup. Admission to the festival grounds remains free, in line with the association's mission as an extracurricular educational institution.
