Christopher Street Day in the Förde city with the motto 'Diversity is our harbour'
Flensburg, an independent city in the far north of Schleswig-Holstein, is not only a bridgehead to neighbouring Denmark but also a centre for the queer community in the far north. The city's annual Christopher Street Day (CSD), also known as Flensburg Pride, is one of Schleswig-Holstein's largest Pride events with up to 1,000 participants and the most important in the border region. It is organised by the association vielfalt.SH e.V., which has been uniting and supporting the queer community of the north for years.
The Pride demonstration starts at the Hafenspitze, Flensburg's maritime landmark at the southern end of the fjord – a fitting symbol: a harbour as a place of arrival, encounter, and diversity. From the harbour, the demonstration proceeds through the city centre, past Nordermarkt and through Norderstraße back to the harbour, where the subsequent stage programme begins. An estimated 800 registered participants per year, with peaks up to 1,000.
After the demonstration (approx. 4 PM–7 PM), Hafenspitze becomes a stage: artists, drag acts, speeches, live music. The programme is traditionally hosted by drag queen ZsaZsa Jackson, a fixture of the North German drag scene. Information stands from queer associations, politics, and business line the festival grounds, and a appreciation market rounds off the programme.
The CSD is the highlight of the Rainbow Days, a 3.5-week series of events (April 27 – May 21, 2026) with 43 individual events: film nights, readings, workshops, panels, club nights, and cultural events dedicated to queer topics. This makes the CSD day the culmination of a much longer queer festival in the city.
Like all German Prides, CSD Flensburg is also a political demonstration and not purely a festival event. Topics such as discrimination in rural areas, queer youth work, inclusion of queer people with migration history, and protection against homo- and transphobia are at the centre – supplemented by close cooperation with Danish LSBTIQ organisations, which is typical for the German-Danish border region.
On Sunday, May 17, 2026, CSD Flensburg will take place under this year's motto Diversity is our Harbour. The meeting point is Hafenspitze, the demonstration starts at 2:00 PM. The route leads through Flensburg's city centre and ends back at Hafenspitze, where the stage programme follows.
Around 800 registered participants are expected, with the possibility of up to 1,000. The organiser is vielfalt.SH e.V., part of the Rainbow Days (April 27 – May 21, 2026).
